How can I participate in a contest?

What do all the abbreviations stand for?
UCA = User Composition Archive
UCC = User Composition Contest
RTTC = Random Tag Team Competition
QTC = Quick Theme Challenge
SGC = Small Groups Competition
PT = Power Tab
PTE = Power Tab Editor
PTA = Power Tab Archive
PTB = Power Tab (file)
GP = Guitar Pro
TG = TuxGuitar
UC = User Composition
WIP = Work In Progress

How do I open the files I downloaded?

For Power Tab files (*.ptb), you need to download the Power Tab Editor (PTE), a freeware that was only released for Windows, but runs fine under Linux using Wine. You may also try running it in Mac OS X with Wine, but we have not attempted that yet.
For TuxGuitar files (*.tg), you need to download TuxGuitar, an open source cross-platform application, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
For Guitar Pro files (gp3, gp4, gp5, gpx), you have two options. You either get Guitar Pro, a commercial application that you have to buy, or you can use TuxGuitar which also supports opening and saving Guitar Pro files (except for gpx files at the time of writing). Guitar Pro is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Why is most of the content on the site in Power Tab format?
The UCA used to be an exclusively Power Tab website ever since 2005, but as of June 2010, it additionally supports Guitar Pro and TuxGuitar.

What is the Recordings page for?
This is for all of the recordings that PTA members have made of their songs. In the future this will include most of the PTA Forum Songs.

Where should I go to vote?
Look for the stickied Polls here: http://forum.powertabs.net/viewforum.php?f=20

Do UCC Staff members like beer?
Hell... yes!

In the voting thread do I state my opinion on songs?
NO! Please don't state your opinion of the songs in the voting thread:If you have any comments, suggestions or you simply want to say a song rocks/sucks please contact the tabber/composer and DO NOT reply in these topics. If there are any complaints or whatever report here

Why are some links coloured?
The user who won the previous UCC has a golden link, RTTC winner has a red link and QTC winner has a green link.

How do i submit a song in the ucc contest?
in the submission procedure select the name of the contest from the drop down menu, and then submit the piece as normal
